Deep tissue massage is very confusing to most people. What a deep tissue massage is, is a focus on specific areas to release adhesions in the muscle tissue, increase range of motion, and provide relief from pain and spasms. Deep tissue massage does not have to be painful, though most times when done correctly there is some discomfort. By communicating with your therapist and staying in your comfort range, pain can be avoided. Most people who receive massage on a regular basis find that there is a positive pain in which you can feel the muscle tissue changing. If you are a large person, or have a lot of muscle mass, deep tissue is what is necessary in order for your therapist to get into your muscles. If you are questioning whether deep tissue is right for you, ask your therapist.
